Gas Fireplace Inspections & Repairs

Why Annual Gas Fireplace Maintenance Matters
Gas fireplaces are low-maintenance compared to traditional wood-burning models, but that doesn’t mean they’re maintenance-free. Over time, even the most efficient gas systems can develop problems that reduce performance—or pose serious safety risks.

Common Issues We Catch During a Gas Fireplace Inspection:

  • Dirty burners reducing flame quality
  • Pilot light or ignition system failures
  • Cracked gaskets or damaged glass seals
  • Carbon monoxide leaks from improper venting
  • Wear on gas valves, thermopiles, or remote systems

Benefits of Regular Gas Fireplace Service:

  • Improved efficiency and lower utility costs
  • Cleaner combustion and better flame appearance
  • Longer lifespan for components and blowers
  • Peace of mind your system is operating safely

Pellet Stove Service and repair

Keep Your Pellet Stove Performing All Winter Long
Pellet stoves are fantastic for clean, efficient heat—but they rely on moving parts, motors, and sensors that wear out over time. Without regular cleaning and inspection, buildup can reduce heat output or even cause a shutdown.

What We Inspect and Service:

  • Burn pot and ash trap cleaning
  • Hopper, auger, and feed system checks
  • Combustion and convection blower testing
  • Circuit board and thermostat function
  • Vent pipe condition and backdraft protection

Why Annual Pellet Stove Service Is Essential:

  • Prevent clogs and overheating
  • Optimize pellet usage and airflow
  • Ensure safe operation and venting
  • Catch worn or failing parts before winter hits

Chimney Liner Inspections

Your chimney liner is one of the most important components of your entire heating system. Whether venting a gas insert or a pellet stove, a damaged or deteriorating liner can lead to poor draft, system failure—or worse, fire and carbon monoxide exposure.

Why Chimney Liner Inspections Are Crucial:

  • Stainless steel liners can corrode over time
  • Improper installation can block exhaust or leak gases
  • Settling or shifting structures can crack older liners
  • Creosote or ash buildup from pellet systems reduces airflow

What We Look For During a Chimney Liner Check:

  • Liner integrity (cracks, corrosion, or separation)
  • Secure attachment to appliance
  • Proper cap and termination
  • Draft performance testing and moisture check

What Are Corroded
Stainless Steel Liners?

Stainless steel chimney liners are used to safely vent appliances like gas fireplaces, pellet stoves, and wood burners. They come in different types, including rigid insulated liners and flexible flue liners. These liners are made from various grades of stainless steel—commonly 316 or 904L—with higher grades offering more corrosion resistance due to increased chromium content.
However, even high-grade stainless steel can break down over time. With enough exposure to heat, moisture, and corrosive byproducts, these liners can deteriorate and eventually develop holes or perforations.

What Causes Stainless
Steel Liners to Corrode?

Although stainless steel liners are designed to handle a wide range of fuels and heating appliances, certain conditions can speed up corrosion. For example:

  • Biomass boilers that burn waste materials can create acidic gases like hydrochloric acid (HCl) inside the flue. These chemicals can quickly eat away at the liner.
  • Fuels high in sulfur, like standard house coal, release acidic byproducts when burned. These acids can cause the steel to corrode and fail much faster than under normal conditions.

Another common issue happens when a stainless liner is installed in an old masonry chimney that’s already saturated with acidic deposits. Chimneys used for many years with solid fuel appliances—especially ones burning high-sulfate fuels—can trap these acidic salts in the bricks. Once a new liner is inserted, those existing deposits can attack the stainless steel from the outside, leading to premature corrosion.
